President Trump has instructed the State Department to issue an order to enforce a worldwide “one flag” policy, meaning only the Stars and Stripes can be flown on U.S. embassies.
The order, signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio decrees that only the American flag can be flown, and any other type of flag is prohibited.
“Starting immediately, only the United States of America flag is authorized to be flown or displayed at U.S. facilities, both domestic and abroad, and featured in U.S. government content,” the order states.
”The flag of the United States of America united all Americans under the universal principles of justice, liberty, and democracy,” the order continues, adding “These values, which are the bedrock of our great country, are shared by all American citizens, past and present.”
The order further states that any employee who flouts the new rule will “face disciplinary action, including termination of employment or contract, or reassignment to their home agency.”
“The U.S. flag is a powerful symbol of pride and it is fitting and respectful that only the U.S. flag be flown or displayed at U.S. facilities, both domestically and abroad,” the policy memorandum emphasizes.
The use of the word ‘pride’ seems fitting given the past four years of the State Department acknowledging every obscure LGBTQ ‘visibility day’ and allowing alphabet flags to be flown willy nilly all over government buildings.
Other flags, such as Black Lives Matter, have also previously been flown over US embassies under Biden’s State Department.
STARS AND STRIPES: The new policy from the Trump administration permits only the American flag to be flown at U.S. facilities at home and abroad, effectively blocking U.S. embassies and outposts from flying Pride and Black Lives Matter flags.
