Yesterday was Starmer’s final day as UK Prime Minister; Monday their time, he hands the reins over to Andy Burnham.

No-one is expecting any significant change to the most disasterous policies and attitudes that have characterised the last 2 years under Starmer. The main failure that Burnham has recognized, publicly at least, is that the Starmer regime shouldn’t have been as silent as it has been on Israel’s ‘population thinning’ in Gaza since October 2023, and currently in south Lebanon.

However, one other significant change he intends is scrapping previous plans for digital ID cards to focus on ‘cost of living measures’. Unusally for a Leftist regime, he plans to decentralize the government by establishing “No. 10 North” in Manchester, overhauling the Whitehall structure, and explore the devolution of business rates to support high streets and pubs. Potentially regional mayors will get control over a share of national taxes. [1, 2, 3]

Should it still be called Starmerland? It’s the same question that occurred after Comrade Jacinda quit in NZ in January 2023. Probably not, but the country will remain just as unpleasant and dangerous as it has been.
