There’s not a lot you can do about a problematic commercial neighbour (like we have on our south boundary), but for normal residential neighbours like yourself, you can make new friends which can be mutually useful.
‘Over the Fence Cuppa’ annual events are small get-togethers in Kapiti neighbourhoods, celebrating New Zealand’s national Neighbour’s Day over 24-25 March.
Kapiti Council program design and delivery Tania Parata manager says that building better relationships in our streets can transform neighbourhoods into healthy, safe, vibrant and inclusive communities, and that the annual Neighbour’s Day events can help springboard people together.
“Over the Fence Cuppa events can take place virtually anywhere in a neighbourhood – in people’s homes, on the berm, in the backyard, or at the local park. It could be a morning tea, a barbeque, a games evening, anything. We invite the community to open their minds and their homes for this event to see where the ideas can lead to.”
Kapiti residents who sign up to host an Over the Fence Cuppa will receive a support pack from Council, including resources, information, and some goodies to get their event going on the right foot.
Registrations for Over the Fence Cuppas close 16 March, 5 pm, and can be made online on the council website here
