She sent the below message to KCDC boss Mr Maxwell, the present mayor, and all the other elected members on Tuesday:

She says: “I have received a range of e-mails expressing dismay from appointed colleagues within Council, other Community Boards and Local Government NZ. It is my intention going forward to be an independent and informed and objective voice for Waikanae.”
Margaret believes that within the current political climate — a climate that in her view constrains democratic process – she is unable to effectively represent those who elected her.
She prefers not to go into specifics, however, this post that Geoffrey wrote last October should provide strong clues.
Because it is more than 12 months out from the next council General Elections — scheduled for October 2022 — there will need to be a by-election, like the one held last year following the resignations of Geoffrey and Jill Griggs.
Good on you Margaret. We need more people out there who are not afraid to speak out and uphold our democratic rights which are now being stiffled under the current government. Thank you for making a stand.
Joyce Glennie It has nothing to do with the Govt! It is the Council ie KCDC that she has resigned from!
