Australia’s current Government will and has announced that they intend keeping all coal power stations operational, it is the Labour Party and the Green Party, if elected, that have said they will save Australia and the world by closing them and all coal mining operations down. They contend that this action will create 60,000 new jobs. Stupid theory thought up by even more stupid people.
I believe that modern coal burning power plants (or older technology plants retro fitted with modern filtration systems) measure up very well in terms of clean air output. We have an almost endless supply of high quality coal in NZ, with large fields close to Huntly, but we import millions of tonnes of low grade coal from Indonesia (who have now banned coal exports). Could be an interesting winter. Brainless, ideological, woke policies that just further cripple our economy.
Southland contains two billion tonnes of easily accessible (cut and cover) high grade thermal coal – enough to power us 100% for the next 100 years. Good to be leaving it in the ground for the next globally ambitious empire builders…
