Ngātiawa ki Kapiti (Waitangi Tribunal Claimant WAI 1018) has been invited by the Minister of Maori Affairs and Minister of Treaty Claims in writing to make contact with one of Te Arawhiti staff to begin independent conversations to address the multiple breaches of Te Tiriti by Government, Waitangi Tribunal, Crown Law, DoC, KCDC, and the Parata Te Atiawa ki Whakarongotai group.

The Ngātiawa collective of 8 hapu with representatives from eight families will attend this hui with their barrister Janet Mason of Pheonix Expert Law and her staff. This hui was put on hold due to Covid. The Ministry of Justice Waitangi Tribunal Legal Aid continues to pay Wai 1018 legal fees which to date total well over $800,000 from 2009 to 2022. The Legal Aid contract is in Apihaka Tamati-Mullen Mack’s name.
