All the time that gets spent on Waikanae Watch by the editors and contributors is voluntary — but we have some external costs that we have to pay, including the overseas hosting and traffic fees and some software. These amount to about $2,000 a year and with the squeeze between income and outgoings nowadays, we would like it to be covered by donations rather than our own pockets.

The alternative of advertising and paywalls is one we’d rather not take.

We are the contrarians to Establishment views and things the Establishment want censored, not just in Waikanae/Kapiti, but nationally and internationally — and that puts us in a small minority of media outlets.

Many articles we’ve had from NZ writers are ones that they’ve had no success getting the Mainstream Media to touch.
