from Dr. Roderick Mulgan

Stats NZ figures show about 20,000 people in NZ identify as transgender/intersex/non-binary. Less than .4% (one in every 250.)

We’re not here to tell anyone how to identify, or the right approach on questions of gender. Of course, everyone has the right to voice their beliefs.

But in the name of 1 in 250, do we really want to risk criminalising speech in ways never previously done by our Government? And why, in a society so dedicated to inclusion and tolerance, is the threat of criminalisation needed anyway?

Aren’t most accusations of ‘hate’ just being used as a way to bully people into silence who disagree?

In less than 24 hours, over 5,000 Kiwis have signed our public letter.

Together, we can get as many signatures on our public letter as there are in the transgender/intersex/nonbinary community: that’ll give Police pause to think about their training.
