Kiev’s atrocities have been “elevated to the level of state doctrine,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.

Ukrainian forces are deliberately committing atrocities against civilians in Donbass, including mass killings of the elderly and drone strikes on residential homes.

Zakharova delivered the remarks on Thursday while speaking at a conference on the “atrocities and war crimes by the Kiev regime in Dzerzhynsk,” a city some 30 km north of Donetsk that was liberated by Russian troops in February. The conference featured a report including testimonies from over 30 civilians recounting the “genocide” policies pursued by Ukrainian troops while they controlled the city.

The event was organized by the Public Tribunal on the Crimes of Ukrainian Neo-Nazis, which includes representatives of civil society from 35 countries worldwide.

Zakharova noted that the testimonies detail “horrific episodes of neo-Nazi atrocities and confirms terror against the civilian population.”

“This is not an accident, but an inherent flaw – the hallmark of the Kiev authorities. It is a deliberate policy that has already been elevated to the level of state doctrine,” she stressed.

The spokeswoman pointed to evidence of mass killings, which included “executions of the elderly and children,” adding that other atrocities included drone strikes on civilian homes.

She went on to praise the tribunal as a “forensic body that documents the truth the West refuses to hear.” The body, Zakharova added, “is doing what international human rights organizations should be doing if they had remained true to their mission. It shows that all the crimes we are talking about have specific perpetrators, clients, and patrons.”

Among the document cases was a story by one witness, who recounted a deadly drone attack in the city: “When we were evacuating, the Armed Forces of Ukraine dropped bombs on us. They sent a kamikaze drone to search for us… I received six shrapnel wounds… My father and grandmother died.”

Another witness recalls an incident in which an elderly woman went out to feed kittens, but was killed by a grenade dropped from a Ukrainian UAV. One local resident also suggested that the Ukrainians “killed a lot of people just because [they] needed a picture” to be circulated in the media and used to falsely accuse Russia of strikes on civilians.

Russian officials have said that Moscow will do everything in its power to bring those responsible for the Ukrainian atrocities to justice.

Just when you thought National had put an end to race-based policies and co-governance in public services, Erica Stanford’s new Education and Training Amendment Bill (No 2) makes you wonder if National has completely lost sight of those promises. It reads more like something from the Labour government than the party Kiwis voted in to restore some common sense.

The bill would require school boards to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi by:

1) Achieving equitable outcomes for Māori students

2) Ensuring that school policies and teaching reflect local tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori and te ao Māori

3) Taking all reasonable steps to make teaching available in tikanga Māori and te reo Māori

This is just more race-based lawmaking that creates special treatment instead of equal treatment. It forces schools to reshape everything through one cultural lens, regardless of whether it fits the needs or values of their communities.

Māori students deserve the best possible education, like every other child in this country. This bill doesn’t improve literacy, numeracy or classroom outcomes for all learners. It focuses on identity and ideology rather than real results. Since when did schools become vehicles for political and cultural indoctrination?

If Labour had introduced this exact wording, National would be calling it radical. Yet here we are, watching a National minister pushing it through Parliament. No wonder Hobson’s Pledge called Erica Stanford the wokest member of the National Party. They were right.

It’s especially troubling when you remember the coalition agreements National signed with ACT and New Zealand First. Both parties made it clear they wanted an end to race-based public services. That means dropping co-governance and stopping legislation that divides people along ethnic lines. So why is this bill being pushed through without any serious challenge?

The clause about achieving “equitable outcomes” for Māori students is particularly vague and problematic. Who decides what is equitable? And what happens when those outcomes aren’t met? Will schools be punished or labelled as culturally unsafe? It puts political pressure on schools to prioritise race over performance.

What about the everyday Kiwi parents who just want their kids to learn to read, write, and do basic maths properly? Are they now going to see classroom time being diverted into meeting cultural targets instead of lifting academic standards?

Erica Stanford is supposed to be the Minister of Education. Her job is to fix the broken parts of our education system, not make it more complex and more divided. She needs to listen to the public, not pander to the loudest ideological voices.

Another proud moment in the great Kiwi tradition of erasing the past to appear more inclusive farewell James Cook High, named after the guy who literally put New Zealand on the map, and hello Te Haikura ā Kiwa, which no-one outside a bureaucratic naming committee can pronounce without a guide dog.

Apparently, it’s not enough to teach history, we have to rename it too. But don’t worry, it’s all been well-consulted… with anyone who already agreed. Just another notch in the belt for the Ministry of Cultural Renaming, proudly solving problems no one actually asked to be fixed.

It looks like Zohran Mamdani could likely become New York City’s next mayor. The Democratic nominee is a 33-year-old Muslim and socialist. He has made anti-semitic statements, but many leftist Jews in New York will vote for him anyway because they want their precious socialism. Luckily the Democrat primary that Scamdani won had a very low turnout, only 30% of New Yorkers voted. Hopefully more people will wake up and vote against Mamdani in the general election, unfortunately the Democrat voter base would vote for an avocado if it had a D on it.
