Especially if you are able to spare time during the day – ring John Backler at the station on Tuesday evenings after 7.45 p.m. 04 298 6445 or call in to Susie Mills’ office and gallery next to the Countdown carpark if you can (or your employer is able to support you volunteering during work hours) and you want to know more.

To become a volunteer firefighter you just need to pass a few standard checks including security clearance and a medical check, and live and work in the area that the station serves so that you can get there quickly when your pager goes off.
