Taxpayers are not an ATM for lavish public servant welcomes and farewells

“The public service needs a reality check. Taxpayers aren’t an ATM for welcoming and farewelling bureaucrats and ACT would pull them into line,” says ACT Leader David Seymour.

“The Post reports that the Department of Internal Affairs spent more than $17,000 welcoming its new Deputy Chief Executive, with more than $7,500 going to a catering company. That’s not bread and butter; that’s luxury canapes and nice wine.

“To the bureaucrats spending your money it’s chump change, but in real terms it is the equivalent of 1.3 years income tax from the median earner. All spent on a welcome for someone already earning a salary that dwarfs that of most Kiwis.

“If a public sector Deputy Chief Executive has more than $17,000, courtesy of the taxpayer, spent on a welcome pōwhiri, how are they then seriously expected to impose careful spending once they’re in the role?

“The culture of extravagance in the public service needs to end. It needs a reminder that the money it is spending has been taken from hard-working New Zealanders, if it’s not spending it on providing public services then taxpayers should be allowed to keep more of it. That’s what ACT would do with our fully-costed tax package.“The Public Service Commission says that it is up to Chief Executives to follow official guidance on spending, ensuring it is “moderate and conservative”. But when the Deputy Chief Executive has had a welcome party that well and truly blows the budget, they’re unlikely to turn around and start telling everyone else in their department to trim their sails.

“The public service needs to get back to basics, serving the public. That’s what people pay taxes for, not grandiose pōwhiri’s and leaving parties.“

ACT is committed to creating a more efficient and effective public service. With specific KPIs, annual output reports, and performance-based pay, we expect the public service will start thinking about how it is serving taxpayers again, rather than itself.”

TV1 and Stuff ‘Climate Change’ content was Labour government-paid Propaganda

23 Wednesday Aug 2023

from the Daily Telegraph NZ

Minister Megan Woods acknowledged in questioning that this government had paid taxpayer money in exchange for Mass Media editorial content on ‘Climate Change’

The story broke Monday on Twitter via citizen journalist Thomas Cranmer (@CranmerWrites).

Responding to questions from National MP Stuart Smith, Woods said the government had paid legacy news outlets TVNZ and Stuff.co.nz $300,000 and $200,000 respectively for media ‘packages’ consisting of prime time specials, interviews with ‘experts’ and stories on ‘climate change’. According to Cranmer, many of the experts were hand-picked by the government. The Stuff.co.nz package included:

  • Five articles on the Stuff.co.nz website
  • Display advertising across the Stuff.co.nz website, for a mimimum of 5 million impressions
  • Video advertising on the Stuff.co.nz website to launch the campaign
  • Five newspaper articles in Stuff.co.nz publications Sunday Magazine and Your Weekend and Life Magazine
  • Five stories on Neighbourly.co.nz
  • A ‘digital hub’ on Stuff.co.nz to hold all editorial content and stories created
  • 104 images and image licensing rights

The Stuff.co.nz deal was purchased as a ‘tailored media package’, and costs were not itemised.

TVNZ Package

‘In May last year the government approached TVNZ with a view to creating a climate change ‘special relationship’. The deal was signed off in October to coincide with COP27 [the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Egypt]’, wrote Cranmer. The TVNZ package included:

  • One hour primetime climate change special aired on TV1
  • Online content at tvnz.co.nz and 1news.co.nz, which included a dedicated web page, advertising banners, logo placement and ‘pre-roll’ commericals
  • Five articles on the 1news.co.nz website
  • Five 1news social media posts
  • Five interviews on the Breakfast show with EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority), climate and energy ‘experts’
  • Seven Sharp interview with an EECA ambassador
  • Joint press release
  • Hosting of the climate special on TVNZ+ for 1 year

‘Reverse chequebook journalism’

The practice of ‘reverse chequebook journalism’ or ‘payment for exposure’ is considered controversial because it calls into question the impartiality and independence of the media outlet. TVNZ’s Charter claims the broadcaster aims to provide ‘independent’ and ‘impartial’ analysis, while Stuff.co.nz’s Code of Practice claims the outlet works ‘in the public interest, independent from political or corporate influence.‘

Experts agree that where payment for exposure is made, the content should display that fact prominently, so readers don’t confuse it with ‘actual journalism’. Principle 10 of the Media Council’s ‘Statement of Principles’ requires members to ‘be independent and free of obligations to their news sources… Where a story is enabled by sponsorship, gift or financial inducement, that sponsorship, gift or financial inducement should be declared.’

It doesn’t appear that these interviews [on 1News and Breakfast] were marked as being “paid or sponsored content”,’ wrote Cranmer.

‘So the five 1News articles, the five interviews on TVNZ’s Breakfast, an interview on Seven Sharp, as well as a full hour “Climate Change Special” on prime time TV were all part of an advertising campaign paid for by the government with the full knowledge of a Crown Minister, but not disclosed as such to the public.’

At the tme of writing DTNZ is unable verify if a complaint has been made to the Media Council over the government payments.

the TV1 News thought police goes after Act candidates

23 Wednesday Aug 2023

by Geoffrey Churchman

Obviously rattled by their Party’s 29% of the vote status in their own commissioned poll, the Labourites in TV One News have emulated Stuff’s gutter politics by going after candidates of the two main opposition parties in an attempt to vilify and discredit them. First up are Act candidates.

Today their news team, by their own admission, went through thousands of social media posts over the last 2 years by all the candidates to find ones that they could then tell David Seymour about in order to get a negative comment from him about them. See this article.

This is a common Labour Party tactic as I found out myself via Joel Maxwell back in 2019 about a certain vile local member.

And then newsreader Simon Dallow had the nerve to effectively ask the reporter, “How much have we damaged Act by doing this?”

In reality, it’s hard to imagine many potential Act voters being put off by negative comments about Jabcinda and her dishonesty, and they are quite likely to be held by the vast majority of them. Indeed, it’s probable they would have been helpful in getting votes.

This is just the latest example of the pernicious political bias of TV1 News. As author Amy Brooke says, boycott them. Watching them is bad for one’s blood pressure.

Although some people still think NATO is only a defensive alliance, it is not: it is as belligerent as it can be against countries that want self-determination from economic and political domination as has been seen several times over the last 25 years. It should be disbanded.

NATO weapons to Ukraine – endless war prioritised over diplomacy: Address to United Nations Security Council

On 17 August 2023, Danny Haiphong spoke to spoke the latest convening of the United Nations Security Council on the dangers that Western arms to Ukraine poses to international peace and stability. He said:

“Today I am here as a journalist who has dedicated the last ten years of my life writing about and speaking out against the long record of human rights abuses and war crimes committed by my country of birth, the United States.

“I don’t consider this a hobby or even a profession but rather a duty to all of humanity and those who want to see a better and more peaceful future. I am here to as a US citizen who has witnessed tens of billions of US tax dollars go to funding and arming a proxy war against Russia while people in the US, ordinary people, suffer from rising levels of poverty, homelessness, suicide and economic insecurity.”

The great p(l)andemic confidence trick

23 Wednesday Aug 2023

by Guy Hatchard

There is a new book out called Anansi’s Gold by Yepoka Yeebo which tells the story of how a convicted small-time confidence trickster John Ackah Blay-Miezah originally from Ghana reinvented himself and fooled the world’s elite. His outrageous claims to be the guardian of a pile of gold, diamonds and cash worth $27 billion proved alluring to punters as Blay-Miezah travelled the world parroting the lifestyle of the rich.

This article is also available as a PDF document to print/download and share. You can also listen to an audio version here.

Curiously, those fooled by the con were not put off when the promised rewards failed to materialise at a string of supposed payouts organised at luxury hotels and resorts. Blay-Miezah was so convincing and adept at playing the role of a fabulously rich man with access to a secret hoard that his excuses only added to the mysterious chic of the scheme, leaving those who had been fooled even more convinced. You can read a summary here.

The story resonates with the great con foisted on the world’s population during the pandemic. A confidence trick that is still in progress, but beginning to fall apart at the seams.

Watch Stephane Bancel, CEO of Moderna, being interviewed by Senator Rand Paul about a payment of $400 million Moderna recently made to the US National Institute of Health (NIH). NIH is the organisation that sets the vaccine policy in the USA which incredibly still recommends repeated Covid ‘vaccines’ for every age group.

Bancel squirms under cross examination, looks up at the sky, and takes his time to work out how many times or if at all his children were vaccinated. Eventually he lumps for a vague 3 to 4 jabs each, while avoiding eye contact. Incredibly, faced with published studies documenting myocarditis harms to young persons, he pretends that Covid infection is much worse for younger age groups, against all evidence.

Bancel is at the first stage of the classic reaction of a criminal perpetrator when found out. This is known as DARVO which stands for deny, attack, and reverse the position of victim and offender (victim blaming). Bancel was caught by the cameras in denial.Similar accusations of misleading pandemic advice are flying around at the moment. Vinay Prasad a renowned and highly published expert on drug testing for safety has published a blank sheet on his X feed saying “I found all the reliable evidence that [Pfizer’s] Paxlovid prevents or reduces long covid and compiled them in this figure”. In other words, there is no evidence.

A couple of days ago I summarised data published by Stats NZ recording an unprecedented increase in annual deaths for the year to July 2023 (up 14%), a decrease in the natural birth increase (down 28%) compared to pre-pandemic. Figures published by the Household Labour Force Survey show that disability (incapacity to work) is up 37.5% over the same period. Despite being a simple regurgitation of official data, this was met with denial in some quarters, one hapless doctor replied “it is all lies” without bothering to check the facts.

Nor are we strangers to attacks. I feel deeply sorry for all those hundreds of thousands of individuals around the world severely injured by Covid ‘vaccines’ whose symptoms have been dismissed as imaginary, minor, or even the result of their own actions. Many have been denied appropriate treatment or attacked and gaslighted online for speaking up.

Attempts to reverse truth and present the infliction of injury as a virtue are incomprehensible and repugnant (a process known as whitewashing). NZ has reported its lowest natural increase in births and lowest fertility rate since 1943 during the second world war. Similar figures are being recorded in other countries including the UK. Professor Sarah Harper CBE, founder and director of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing and a former government adviser, said yesterday:

“I think it’s a good thing that the high-income, high-consuming countries of the world are reducing the number of children that they’re having. I’m quite positive about that.”

The latest figures involve a sudden acceleration of a gradual long term trend of reducing fertility and increasing deaths that is not predicted from the prior data and therefore highly unlikely to be the result of an ageing population or changing values as some suggest. Fertility is closely connected with individual health. Professor Harper’s comment attempts to portray failing health in developed countries as a benefit, rather than the outcome of increasingly poor diet and the adverse effects of modern medicine. All the above have the classic hallmarks of a con. Repeatedly, advocates of biotechnology are announcing imminent cures for diseases while presiding over increases in rates of chronic illness and iatrogenic disease (illness caused by treatments). A string of announcements of imminent improvements in Covid vaccines and treatments similar to this one from Oxford University fall into this category. Like the promises of Blay-Miezah, they never seem to materialise. Instead being substituted over time by new even more alluring promises (you can find out more about the biotech fraud here).

Blay-Miezah was eventually caught out when, like Stephane Bancel in front of Rand Paul, he failed miserably during a probing interview with 60 minutes. In Blay-Miezah’s case, we are talking about a time when mainstream media was still exposing fraud. It isn’t now and apparently doesn’t intend to do so in future.

We are entering a new age where medical authorities can dictate media content with impunity.

In an alarming development, YouTube has introduced a new “medical misinformation policy” that will now censor not just Covid information but any medical or health-related content that doesn’t align with claims made by the World Health Organisation (WHO) or Local Health Authorities (LHAs).

In other words, we are likely to be censored if we question the safety of certain modern medical approaches or we discuss complementary approaches to maintain health. This extends the freedom of WHO and LHAs to gaslight those affected by adverse effects whilst keeping the lid on criticism and natural approaches to health even if verified by the results of studies.Large payouts to government bodies like the $400 million ‘gift’ of Moderna to NIH are indicative of institutionalised corruption on a grand scale. Sir Jonathan Van-Tam (known as JVT), the UK’s former Chief Medical Officer and an acknowledged expert in something called ‘medical strategy’, has just been appointed a senior medical consultant to biotech giant Moderna in the latest round of revolving door appointments.

During his time as UK Chief Medical Officer Van-Tam made decisions on supply contracts for Covid jabs including with Moderna and appeared regularly on TV to offer simplified explanations of Covid policy intended to reassure the public. Something that according to UK Health Minister Sajid Javid made him a ‘national treasure’. The UK government also cemented a long term research and development contract with Moderna worth £150 million during JVT’s tenure.

I can’t help wondering if JVT’s first task at Moderna will be to coach Stephane Bancel on the right strategy to avoid answering difficult questions on excess deaths and adverse effects of vaccines. It might come in very handy. This would be laughable if it didn’t involve human life on a scale that is beginning to rival that of wartime.

Our politicians, the media and our doctors are letting us down. The latest data shows Covid jabs have not prevented infection, transmission, serious illness, or death, they have facilitated it. Don’t let go of common sense.
