We expect most of our readers planning to spend Christmas somewhere else in the country will hit the road today or tomorrow and those going through Kapiti in that purpose should be able to do most of it at 110 km/h now. According to those in emergency services in the district, the Ewy has seen a big reduction in callouts for crashes compared to the old SH1 days from about one a week to one a month.
Elsewhere it may not be — and probably won’t be — so safe, so a good idea is to travel in the morning after 5 am when traffic is quiet.
We wish all a happy Christmas (like the late Queen Elizabeth, we think ‘merry’ has an air of ‘inebriated’ about it. 🙂 )
